I’m assuming this was meant to say “First units expected to SHIP Janurary 2025”
I ordered mine within minutes of release so unless they only had a dozen of these to sell, mine should be in the first “batch”. I double checked this morning and sure enough, it’s not January anymore. Soooo…what’s up?
You might be surprised by the number of rotary orders placed “in the first minutes”. For reference, what is your order number?
I have learned that the initial delivery dates seem to be more optimistic than realistic. Anyway, hopefully deliveries for day 1 orders ship out in Q1 2025.
Also, trains are the most efficient form of transporting goods; they can move 1 ton of weight 400 miles using just 1 gallon of gas. They’re just not the fastest option.
Selling that many that quickly tells me that they waited too long to offer one. OTOH they could have just made a simple belt driven cheap one and called it good. Instead they really went above and beyond (which is why it also sold so well).
But they didn’t even have one to offer when they sold a boat load of them and I think that’s why there are so many upset or confused. Many people, myself included, were not aware that this was basically a go-fund-me. It wasn’t even released to manufacturing until weeks AFTER they went on sale. Maybe this is just the new way of doing things in business? I don’t know, I’m not a business man.
Two of my friends were eager to get machines after they saw mine. And both of them went with a competitor based on MY experience with 1F. For them the rotary nonsense was the final factor. And I quote…“no way I’m giving my money to a company that does s**t like that” Again, I’m not a business man but I do know that a negative 200% customer retention rate is not good.
Meanwhile, I’ll wait patiently for the rotary having learned a lesson. I’m very happy with my machine overall minus a few small quirks. Not too impressed with 1F as a company though.
I think it is. Not thrilled about it myself, but not complaining.
Pre-orders and kickstarts and early entry are all fine, if you know that’s what you are doing. Selling something that not only is not in inventory, but is not even in existence is less than awesome. I feel like a deposit is a better way to do it than a full purchase.
But I think we all have to get used to it because that does seem to be the way things are going.
Demand forecasting really isn’t that difficult, even with new products you know people have been requesting for years. They clearly don’t have a true supply chain team. I think that would take their business to the next level
I’m not speaking to 1F individually or specifically, I was talking about the general trend toward taking orders and THEN making product.
Like you said, there are plenty of ways to predict demand.
That’s a trade off every company has to make. Either tie up a % of your money in inventory and ship quickly to happy customers, or what we’re seeing here
I can understand this process when 1F started out, but now they have sold many millions of dollars of equipment and should the cash flow to take orders and bill when shipped, as long as they can get away with using others money for their business model more power to them, I bough knowing the deal and probably would again, I think they are a great company, wish I could have been an original investor.

Well, count me as one of the supporters of this model. Not happy about the wait, but I’ve been super impressed with the product itself. If it means I have to wait a little while, I’m OK with that. It is a lot of money to tie up and NOT get the value from the purchase, but the value of the 1F platform is worth the wait for me. I waited ~6 months for my original Journeyman. In the interim, I studied and learned how to use it. I built the base. I researched all the other components I would need. When it arrived, I was ready.
I’m doing the same thing now with the rotary. I’ve started building models, and studying how to use. Learning a heap so that when it shows up, I can ramp really quickly.
Kind of the reality, but making the most of the wait in anticipation.
On the man page there is a button called support. scroll down and see shipping information. that will tell you what order numbers Onefinity is working on and the shipping date for those numbers. my number is not even listed yet, so I know it is gonna be a while. hope this helps.
It says “These are for machines only” in the header of the orders column. I take it it only applies to the orders that contain full machines, not at all to the orders containing the Rotary. For the Rotary/4th Axis it only says “initial batch - early Feb, followed by subsequent batches in the following months”
Hope we’re ALL in the first batch
Shipping info says early Feb. Product info page says late Feb. I feel like the left hand isn’t talking to the right hand over there at 1F because the sound of Yakety Sax playing on a perpetual loop is too loud.
