ATC compatible spindles

I love that onefinity has made atc, spindles and rotary availble to us all bb included
Will the g- penny 1.5 air cooled er11 spindle work with our newly availble atc

I believe it is for ER20 collets only, at least this initial offering. I imagine other sizes will depend on the interest shown in the forums and feature requests going forward.

Ty sir
And thanks for your help over the years

This is from the supplier
Wondering what we’d need to do to make it work
It has a list of controllers
I did not see BB on there

Happy to help where I am able.

Yes, Don at RapidChange has magazines that support several sizes of ER collet.
I have been on his Discord channel for a while and there several who have implemented his ATC with BBs. I am sure he is working on it - I think he has spent the last few months working with Onefinity to get that partnership to market, so will have time to get back to his other controller support. Unless he becomes too busy fulfilling Onefinity orders…

Our ATC only works with ER20 collets (80mm spindles). We will only offer tech support if you have it paired with the Onefinity Spindle Kit by Redline CNC.

I just ordered the ATC from Onefinity. I have a PWNCNC spindle.
Does anyone know if it is compatible?
Will have to cancel order if not…
TIA

The only spindle we can guarantee and have been tested is the Onefinity Spindle Kit by Redline CNC. It’s also the only one that we can provide technical support with if you have any issues with the ATC. While any 80mm er20 collet spindle that can go cw and ccw may work, we will not be able to give technical support if you need it with the spindle/ATC.

If you value technical support, we recommend the Onefinity Spindle.

We hope that helps!

I’m in the same boat as John Hill. I note that the CCW button on the Masso does not move the PWN spindle, so not very hopeful. But maybe it’s a setup issue with the VFD. Otherwise I’ll have to cancel the order.
Alex

All VFD drives and go CW and CCW, it is a setting and wiring to make this happen.

Thanks, Pat, good to know.

Look on the pwncnc forum if your interested? I know they have said their spindles will rotate both directions. I have no idea how to set it up but I’ll be watching for someone to let all of us know who to do it.

If you absolutely need reverse (CCW) spindle, you can do it with the pwncnc spindle. I think you can with all of them to be honest. I seen a right up pwn did on it. Look up wiring notice on their site. I have not done this. Don’t know what it will do to your warranty either way. I would post it here, but don’t know if we are allowed too, So i won’t. but it’s easy to find.

Hey Doconefall, hey @SnidelyWhiplash, hey @johnhill30, hey all,

as with “spindles” you usually mean three-phase induction motors or three-phase synchronous motors, they all can run counterclockwise. This already happens if you swap two of the three contacts. It’s the duty of the VFD to offer counterclockwise rotation and all VFDs offer this. Usually there is a setting inside the VFD that can prevent counterclockwise rotation because it may be unwanted.

The other thing is, your CNC controller must be wired to the VFD in a manner to be able to request counterclockwise rotation. See wiring diagrams for ensuring that wiring for counterclockwise rotation is there.

No special wiring is necessary if your VFD is controlled via Modbus (like the Buildbotics CNC controller or the buildbotics-derived Onefinity PRO/Original CNC Controller).

Note that counterclockwise rotation is something that is needed only for RapidChangeATC (or “Easy ATC” as Onefinity calls it) in combination with standard, non-ATC spindles. This is different from “normal” ATC which works with pneumatics and requires ATC spindles like these or these.

The thing I’m concerned with is programming a dust boot with the atc
, I’m thinking one with a detached brushed bottom held with magnets

That gets removed with a docking area that’ll hold it down then after tool change can be reattached

Any ideas on dust collection That’ll not break the bank

Thank you all for your responses. I feel confident that I can make this work but probably will wait until I get my hands on the ATC.

You’re correct that initial offerings often focus on a specific size

I truly don’t want to come across as confrontational in a forum where people come together to help one another. However, I feel that this statement comes across as somewhat dismissive to loyal fans. Before OF partnered with Redline, many of us were encouraged to purchase the PWNcnc spindle, and I’m sure others opted for similar models with comparable functionality.

It wouldn’t be unreasonable for OF to test and verify the compatibility of these spindles with the ATC. This isn’t a particularly complex task for a company with OF’s capabilities.

While it’s understandable that a commercial partnership with Redline would naturally influence your marketing focus and recommendations, I don’t think it’s entirely fair to cast doubt on the functionality of other well-known and widely used spindles among your loyal customers. Verifying the operation of these alternatives and confirming their compatibility would be a straightforward and helpful gesture to support your community.

I had not heard of Redline prior to the announcement, wonder if they are a subsidiary of 1F?
Pat

I didn’t see where they casted doubt. They just said “We will not support spindles we don’t sell”. That has bee 1F’s message all along. Over the years they have updated the firmware to include various spindles to help those who wanted one. But they have been 100% open about their policy when getting help if you have a spindle.

In direct answer to you question, this statement…The only spindle we can guarantee and have been tested is the Onefinity Spindle Kit by Redline CNC.’

I am awaiting my ATC as a loyal customer. I totally get the support position but I would think that they can go a bit further and test a few other commonly used spindles.
