I’m just curious as to preferences for mounting the ATC. I had planned on waste board mounted to the top left but now that I see the QCW mounts now available again, I’m debating if I should order one to have it in the front of my table.
Hi, did you end up doing the ATC? How did you end up mounting it. I don’t really see a benefit of the QCW mount unless it helps to maximize cutting area. Also, I supposed you wouldn’t have to re-align it if you change out your spoil board. I am on the fence about doing the ATC, and especially with the QCW mount since it adds $100 to the cost. If you end up doing it how have you liked it?
I debated this for countless hours when I put in my ATC. I concluded that having the ATC at the back of the machine running parallel to the X axis is best. I pushed mine as far towards the right as possible, because I blow chips off to the left.
I think the back is best because it preserves the full 48” width, so I can load 48” wide sheets. It’s common for sheets to overhang off the front of the machine, and I “feed" the material into the machine as it’s consumed.
My ATC is the conventional pneumatic style, not the rapidchange, but I think the logic applies to both.
Theres a cutout in my table for long tools. The ATC rack has removable modular sections so that some, or all of the rack can be removed if i wanted to load long material through the machine. I recently increased the rack from 12 to 20 tools.
Both? Mine generally sits on the QCW. But I recorded the position when it was on the upper left and I have positioning pins. The issue is, the changer takes up space. So it you want to use it for a long pass through, like in my case, carving interior doors, the QCW will block it. So I can move it to the side.
Of course, if you are using a single tool on the carve, or if you want to change the tools manually on a larger carve, removing the ATC from the QCW is quick and easy. Then just turn off the tool setter and ATC and Bob’s your uncle.
