QCW mounted ATC and Rotary

Can a QCW mounted ATC and Rotary coexist ? I noticed I need to shorten a couple wasteboards to mount the ATC on the QCW. Will that support interfere with the Rotary ? not clear from the information available at this point.

cheers, Alex

Yes. Have been playing with it for a few weeks. Look for rotary_ATC post processor

how about mechanically … will the rotary tail stock and the ATC base not interfere ?

I just received my QCW mount for the Easy ATC and it definitely interferes mechanically with the Rotary QCW mount. Not sure if I am going to use the ATC anymore. I wonder if Onefinity has a solution in mind.

Are you willing to consider using the rotary when installed using the other alternative method described in the manual/video?

I am considering the waste board mounting option. I just just assumed they would work together. Honestly, for my workflow, the rotary is more important than tool changes.

I understand your original question, and it is good that you shared your finding about the new QCW adapter kit mount and QCW mounted rotary. I was just worried you were abandoning the rotary because the new QCW ATC mounting solution interfered with your installed rotary, but it seems like for you removing the ATC or installing it elsewhere will have less impact on your workflows than moving the rotary.

or we find a solution to move the rotary up a bit (on Y axis), enough for the tailstock to clear the ATC support.

That was my suggestion with respect to following the alternative installation method described by Onefinity.

I do not have a rotary or Easy ATC on my custom WW build, but I assume people using the rotary with QCW alignment pins/tightening knobs would still screw the brackets to their table. Using spacers - such as a pair of 123 blocks - instead of the alignment pins would work well to achieve the same end result.

I know I shouldn’t assume, so I will reach out to them directly to address this oversight. I was explicitly told that the two options would work together when i purchased both with the QCW options. If they had to redesign they should have accounted for that. I am wondering if they are willing to provide spacers to the Rotary, an offset version of the plate that will allow for the them to coexist, or ultimately a refund for the extra funds/cost of the QCW hardware that was charged.

Let me know if/when you get any “official” feedback on the topic.

After the redesign of the qcw mount we realized they don’t work together. We’re working on some adapter blocks that will ‘push’ the rotary backwards a bit to clear. Once we finalize the design, we’ll post up the stl here for those to print.

Then we’ll get them off the be manufactured and put them up on our website.

Is the z slider spacer still needed with the new cnc mount? It looks like the spindle will reach the center of the ATC cups without it.

Rotary QCW spacer blocks for those with shorter blocks.step (33.0 KB)

Here’s a spacer block stl you can 3d print for those who already have the rotary qcw. it pushes the rotary back so it will clear the ATC.

In the future, the current spacer block that’s included with the rotary qcw mounts will be the combined lenght of the current short one and this extender so this issue will be resolved.

what screws we’ll need to attach this new spacers ?

They will need to be m4x60mm
