Hi All,
I’m interested in attaching a battery powered laser pointer to my spindle bracket for dry runs. I see posts on connecting an external powered laser but nothing about a battery powered one. Has anyone done this? Any recommendations on bracketry? Anyone found a good pointer for this? My thinking is that it’s simple to just manually turn it on when doing dry runs. Seems like a lot of work to wire it into a relay etc. etc. Am I missing something?
Thanks.
One option is to get a bore sight for a gun’s scope setup, or for archery. If you find a low profile one you can just put it in the collet of your spindle and that would give you a very good reference for the bit travel. The one attached below is for archery, after a quick google search.
That is exactly what I did and found one that fits the 1/4" collet with a length that approximates a standard bit. So far it works very well too.
Phil, would you happen to have a link or more details on what you have? That sounds perfect.
Mike, this is the one I got on Amazon. It came with different size o-rings so I simply put the clear ones on the shaft with the installed black ones in the grooves.
Note, I also do the test run with the z-probed at least .5" high and the router off (of course).
Many thanks, Phil. I seemed to be stuck on MidTen products and not finding anything that seemed like a good match.
Thanks all for the recommendations. I’m buying one!
