I store my machine on end (QCW) when not using it for extended periods of time. My question is if would be beneficial to install a braking motor on the X-axis to help hold the gantry in place and prevent any unwanted stress (if any) on the machine?
the other related question is if I should remove the spindle or can it be left in place when storing?
I have mine (JMan) on a QCW mounted to a Fischer style tilting table and usually have it tilted unless I’m actively using it as the whole thing stores in about 24" of space from the wall.
I did make two pieces of wood that I place between the X-axis rail and the Y-axis support feet so the X-axis and router don’t slide all the way down when the table is tilted vertically. I suppose that puts some amount of stress on the tube to foot connection of the Y-axis tubes but since the feet are screwed down into the table I’m not losing sleep over it.
