Bug or opportunity for improvement?

Redline HMI running 1.5.14. When you boot up and then try to probe without first homing the machine, the probe function moves the router/spindle away from the probe when it tries to find the X axis location. I suppose it’s good that the probe attempt fails (since the machine hasn’t been homed yet), so I don’t know if this was intentional or not…? If it’s intentional, is there a better way to handle this? Like why not just popup a warning box saying “You need to home the machine first, before probing for a work location”.

Related… I’ve submitted a feature request in the forum before to add an automated function that prompts you to home the machine upon boot up, like the BuildBotics platform does. That would go a long ways in avoiding this situation altogether.

The original BB used to do that at startup, not sure why they dropped it. They do tell you to home after starting and I thought you can’t spin up the spindle until you have because the DRO ERR14 can’t be cleared until you’ve homed it. I think adding an alert before probing could lead to a bunch of other potential places where it would need to be added. Maybe adding it back to the startup sequence would be a good idea.

Why not use a post it note that says that along with other things that need to happen in a specific order. Once you do it several times you will remember the order of operations.
