Drag Chain Specs/Dimensions (or 'What to buy before your machine shows up?')

Hey,

I’m looking to build a drag chain into my setup, but information seems scattered around the forums and incomplete. I was wondering if people could share some general information about the dimensions of their drag chain setups so I can purchase stuff before my machine arrives.

Things I’d like to know:

  • What are your drag chain dimensions? (e.g. Size: 15x30mm, Length: 1m)
  • What are you using for cable extensions? (Did you crimp your own? What connectors are used? What wire gauge? What’s the length of your run? Shielded cable? Did you modify the stock ones?)
  • How did you mount your drag chain? (Use a kit off Etsy? Roll your own?)
  • Was is worth it? :stuck_out_tongue:

I 3-d printed my drag chain brackets, .stl files from here: ONEFINITY CNC Complete X & Y Drag Chain Bracket Setup | Etsy

I ordered 2 2-foot wire extensions from Onefinity at the time of my order.

Do the extensions replace the Z-cable? 4ft doesn’t seem like it would be enough to eliminate it. How’d you jam the Z-cable in the Drag chain if not.

The extensions add onto the existing cable, making it longer.

If you add drag chains, are the 4ft extensions needed. If so, is 4ft long enough.
