How do I get rid of that square border around the clip art picture of the sun? I just want the sun. Not the square border. Unfortunately, I can’t simply select the square border and delete it. It’s tied to the clip art when I import it. I am running Vectric V carve pro V12.
You should be able to apply a “Clipping” path (vector) within the 3D Modeling (Components) tab.
It is explained in detail in the video linked below, fast forward to around the 8:00 minute mark if you are experiencing TL;DR syndrome.
I also highly recommend these Learn Your CNC online courses, which I paid for, and have really helped me learn things I didn’t know I didn’t know about. Kyle is an excellent presenter, and he offers twice-weekly Zoom meetings, once-a-week group training or a full offline training course which he is in process of updating to Vectric v12.
Thanks! I’ll check out the video
But if you’re wanting the circle cutout around the sun, but without the square vector, you should be able to delete the square. you may need to ungroup the vectors in your design software to be able to delete only the square and any other unwanted bits and pieces.
I thought so as well. But, I can’t select the square. it selects the whole image including the square and the program also says there are no vectors.
What software are you using? Vetric, CarveCo, etc… I’m sure someone will point you in the right direction.
Can you remove the circle and the square leaving the sun image alone? A new circle is pretty easy to add .
I’m using Vectric V-Carve Pro V12. Did I not put that in the original post? Sorry if I didn’t. I thought I did.
The square is part of the image. That’s what I need to get rid of, the square. The circle is not an issue. That I can delete, move, hide or edit. It’s just the the image itself with that square border
Select the image, ungroup it and delete the box and probably regroup the image
You can’t ungroup the image. It does not give me that option. This was a black and white Clipart image that was imported into V12 of Vectric V-Carve Pro. There isn’t any detectable vectors in the image. When you set up the toolpath using the “Sketch Carving” toolpath, it creates a decent enough carve but, the square is a part of it, I can’t get rid of. If I select the image, there is no way to “ungroup” it. That works if there are vectors the program can see. This is just an image and according to V-Carve Pro, there are no vectors. If you try using the trim scissors, the program will tell you there are no vectors chosen.
Here’s a great vid on node editing. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eRuo1jOwHlU. Once you’ve grasped the ideas in the vid, know that you can delete nodes or sections… This is based on having imported the clip art to get vectors. There are many great videos on this also… Here’s a vid from an older version but it still works…Trace Bitmap - VCarve Pro V9.0 User Manual
Node editing Mode is your friend.
I tried node editing but because it does not have vectors per se, there is nothing in that image that is selectable, other than the whole image which can’t be ungrouped and then pick what I want to edit or remove.
Let’s get you some vectors then… Here’s a vid on importing, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-6fSSLNTMS8, again, it’s an older version but is performed the same only with some differences of where the icons (buttons) are located. Here are the buttons and locations you’re going to use in V-12
Which “import” button you need to use depends on the file type ie. .bmp, .svg, etc…
Maybe share the image file so we know what you’re dealing with…
In aspire and I believe the same in v. Drawing a vector around what you want to keep and then going on the modeling tab and select the “remove all outside vector”, in most cases will remove the square and leave you with the section you want.
Is this something Vetric is adding or is it part of the clipart? If it’s part of the clipart then can’t you just delete it before importing it into Vetric? I’m still using Fusion so I can’t help too much but I’ll switch at some point so I want to learn.
It’s part of the clipart file. What I’ve been doing is because my project requires a circular disk, (I need 4. One representing each season for a welcome sign with a replaceable “O” depending on the season) I get Microsoft Copilot Designer to give me, as an example… A black and white clipart image of the sun wearing sunglasses with a round border encircling the image of the sun. That way the offending square is outside the circle. Then when importing the image, I resize the image with the circle to the size of the disk needed and align it with the cutout profile of the disk.
That’s what I’ve been doing, but it won’t delete what’s outside the circle because Vectric doesn’t see it as a removable vector, but will create a toolpath for that flippin’ square! It’s getting frustrating. Luckily, it doesn’t really matter what happens outside of the boundaries because those images I want are encircled with a circle and that circle is profile cut through the material. So it may have some remnants of the square outside of the circle that have been carved, it’s scrap. So all good. Where the problem lies is when the image doesn’t require a profile cutout, then the square possibly becomes an issue.
Have you tried using an online image converter to convert your clipart to an svg file? That way, you’d have a vector graphics file that Vectric could easily modify. I’ve had good results converting files ive grabbed online with convertio.co.
