Elite foreman gen 2 footprint

Quick question I will building a torsion box for the foreman gen 2.

What is the exact size to cover the whole machine including the overhang of the motors ?

Foot print is exactly the same as older gens, with about 2" more of stickout on the larger motors.

Do you have a diagram of the machine or qcw showing measurements?

For the feet

I just want to confirm that the feet will fit on a 5x5 sheet, I know the motors will over hang just want confirmation that the feet will fit

also if I de ice to go with the journeyman how much does it cost to upgrade to the foreman rails in the futures roughly ?

Just fit. My summer special Redline Elite Foreman is 58.5” front to back and exactly 60” side to side for the feet. You could let the motors overhang but that also lets the wires overhang as well and puts them at risk of getting snagged on something and torn out.

My table is a tilt top so I made sure everything was inside the perimeter of the table so mine is 72x66. The new motors would require another 2”.

The problem with the official measurements is they don’t account for the wires. You must have additional room off the front and one side for the wiring connectors and an arc to allow the wires to bend gently. You can’t crimp them into a 90 degree bend and expect them to work.

That also means that you have to put everything else under the table too, and I prefer to have stuff that is doing things where I can see them if they burst into flame or suddenly go dark. LOL

So, for me bigger is always better.

@JimHatch

I ended up deciding to go with the flip top, I wanted to do it like the original fisher one with a work bench on the other side.

Is that how you have it ? How does the machine hold up upside down ?

Exactly. I’ve had no issues with the IF hanging sideways or upside down.

@JimHatch

Do you have the qcw ?

bolts holding it in or screws ?

Would it be a big problem to provide an authoritative drawing? It would help people immensely, some of us have tight spaces where we’d like to fit the machines and there has always been confusion about space required with plenty of discussions with words like “about”, “around” etc.

Also, what is the height one needs to reserve for the machine with the 80mm spindle, from the bottom of the feet to the top of the motor cabling? I’d like to have a lifting tabletop over my machine and the photos of the new generation seem to indicate the height has increased?

I did. I didn’t bother reinstalling it when I upgraded to the summer special buy Redline Elite. I never used the T-track workholding and spoil board replacement requires resurfacing or replacing all the slats anyway so I got no value out of the QCW. I had the secure from above version. I made a Matchfit spoilboard for the new machine using the OF design.

i have the elite foreman, i built a 6’x6’ torsion box and it ALL fots WITHIN that square with extra room at the back.

Nothing sticks out past the table anywhere.
