I am trying my first engraving on a brass nameplate.
This will be attached to a relief carving.
I will be using a 30deg vbit for the engraving and a 1/16 end mill for the cutout.
The brass sheet I am using is 6x6x.8mm (.03149 inches)
As this is my first try at engraving and using Brass I am looking for suggestions on dept of cut, and feeds and speeds. I have a OneFinity X50woodworker with a Mikita Router.
I am including both a picture of my project and my .crv file
Any suggestions and assistance is greatly appreciated.
Did you end up finding success with the nameplate project? I am about to try the same, and yours is the only post I found that discusses using the 1F to engrave a nameplate. What bit did you end up using and what depth of cut did you go with??
Related: I engraved a brass vertical sundial. It was also my first venture into brass engraving. Make sure you engraved deep enough to allow for clean up, I had a lot of bur. Also getting the plate dead flat was tricky so had to run the engraving in a few runs with a fraction of a mill lower for some areas. Start with the highest and the lowest (uncraved) become obvious.
It is still hanging out in all weather. I’m very surprised that the super glued gnomon is still good, see image below. A bit tarnished, didn’t help putting a winter bird feeder in front of it.
