Related: I engraved a brass vertical sundial. It was also my first venture into brass engraving. Make sure you engraved deep enough to allow for clean up, I had a lot of bur. Also getting the plate dead flat was tricky so had to run the engraving in a few runs with a fraction of a mill lower for some areas. Start with the highest and the lowest (uncraved) become obvious.
It is still hanging out in all weather. I’m very surprised that the super glued gnomon is still good, see image below. A bit tarnished, didn’t help putting a winter bird feeder in front of it.
