Need to flatten my spoilboard, I have a fraiser tornado 60mm facemill bit, do i need to turn off toolsetter and set zero manually. I cant use toolsetter and probe with this big facemill bit? Can someone explain what i need to do, im a newbie at this.
Mine is a BB controller but I would think the process will be common to any machine.
I start with a straight edge to generally try to find the highest point on the spoil board. Once found, that is point where I set height with the Z probe. I’ve also used the manual paper method but, obviously, the Z probes is more accurate.
Experience says that with tools that big, make sure you start at or just above the highest point and don’t try to run feeds and speeds too fast.
A side note: I have also “air cut” above the board to test the limits of X/Y to make sure it covers the entire board.
When i flatten MDF Spoilboard, there is lines, ridges, i need to adjust the tilt front to back of the Z axis. i been trying to shim, but i read that you can adjust it with the 8 bolts on the X axis rail. Is there any info or video how to do this?
In my personal experience, I’ve found it easier to tweak front-to-back with shims than with the adjustment bolts. I made shims from kitchen aluminum foil.
There will be others who will jump in and say the bolts are easy. I have struggled with the adjustment bolts. I also have the Stiffy 3rd rail so that adds a little extra tinkering.
For me I pulled out less hair shimming it. ![]()
