I’m pretty sure I have a bad hdmi cord to my 7” display. Is the cord hdmi to mini hdmi?
I know there is micro hdmi and mini display port as well.

Yes, HDMI to mini. I got a 90 degree adapter to make cable management little better. Then you can use standard HDMI cables rather than a mini.
