Help: Speeds for Surfacing

Hi all, this is my first post!

I bought a CNC machine (photo) and the vacuum motor stopped working a while back, but that’s another story.

Usually, I placed a 20mm MDF spoilboard and use it until it becomes too wasted.

However, I read that there’s a bit that can clean the surface so I can reuse the board with even level.

So I bought this surfacing bit from a local store (50mm diameter) and require some assistance with deciding on the spindle speed, feed and passovers

P.S. I’m not sure which programs other people use but I use Vectric Aspire for CNC

  1. This is a forum for Onefinity CNCs and you aren’t using a Onefinity.
  2. A CNC of the size you have should be able to surface MDF with a 2" bit ridiculously fast…at least 300 inches per minute. Possibly even faster. And a depth of cut of at least .1"…again, maybe much more. MDF is hard on bits, but it doesn’t offer much resistance.
  3. On my Onefinity with a much less powerful spindle I use 1" bit, 200 inches per minute, .01" depth of cut.
