Amen ty
How do you re configure
configuration to X, A, and Z. And set the Y1 to A and Y2 to disabled
Just click on motors 0, 1, 2, and 3 and you can set up all the values to configure them and enable/disable them. When changing to my rotary i would change from Y to A and change my step angle to what it needed to be from the spec sheet and the travel-per-rev to 360. But once I got the settings set I saved a configuration for these values and called the file rotaryaxis, and saved the original configuration file as standardcnc. Then whenever I needed to go back and forth all I had to do was hook up the Y-axis motors or the A axis motors and then hit ārestoreā under āAdminā/āGeneralā/āConfigurationā and choose whichever configuration file I needed between the two. And then good to go.
Cool ty sir Iāll be trying it
Sounds good let me know if you need any help when you are starting it. I got pretty good help from the buildbotics controller manual, though itās not the same controller itās based off it. And if you use vcarve I can send you the post processor I modified for use with the rotary.
Right on ty I have an extra motor here Iāll see what I can make
SeeJay, How did your test go after adjusting your min duty, did you have to return it back to one after homing, and or after you did another etch??? ty, mine is doing same.
@OnefinityCNC Is there any timeline for the laser issues mentioned in this topic? I just got my 1F and JT setup and am experiencing most of what was mentioned⦠pretty much have to mothball lasering until it works predictably & reliably.
FYI - JT replaced the laser controller and everything works correctly now.
So⦠I just set up my laser today to discover this issue with MDI not firing the laser in order to set XY zero. (firmware version 1.0.8) I came up with a reasonable work around. I load a v bit in my spindle and set a random XY zero. I then fire the laser using the switch on the Jtech controller to make a mark on a piece of scrap. I then jog the v bit to the point the laser made⦠I now have the offset between the laser and spindle. Now when Iām ready to use the laser I center XY zero using the v bit and spindle then jog using MDI to the negative of the offset and re-zero XY with the laser over my point of interest.
With the update to 1.0.8 I needed to tweak the settings I was using to fire the laser with the MDI commands, however I think your method may just be my new preferred method!
Could be some repeatability issues with removing the mounting bracket and reinstalling, however I feel there would be enough accuracy if care was taken to index the bracket and laser module the same every time, at least for what I am going with mine.
There is definitely repeatability issues due to the removable head. However, itās well within the margin of what Iām willing to accept. In fact I might measure it by taking the head on and off, firing it in between and measuring the variance. Iām curious to know what settings you had to tweak.
What firing issues are you having?
There is a procedure to follow: go to tools and uncheck dynamic and save. Go back to mdi and enter m3 s10 or higher till it fires when you click the start arrow. The laser will fire a steady safe beam. If you use the joystick to move it around the beam will not go out. Use the keypad and it will go out until you hit the start arrow again.
Just be sure to recheck the dynamic box before using or it will fire full force when you use it.
Alden, maybe you can help me. I set up my laser and had the usual issues that have been described. I talked to Jtech and they suggested following their setup on their website. I did, but found with dynamic checked, the M3 sxx never fired it. If unchecked it fires at about S59 and stays on while jogging. I also entered 1000 for max-spin on tool setting. When doing a burn, being new to lasers, itās so fast I canāt tell what percent of power itās using. The code reflects changes in power, but that sounds to be irrelevant here. If I want it lighter I just adjust max power in the tool path. Not sure Iām set up correctly. Iāll try some test squares and see if I can be more specific. Are these settings to be changed back for non laser use? Lastly, donāt leave the focus tool near the vacuum portā¦
Hi Joe, I do not have any of the problems you are mentioning so let me share my settings with you. My max spin is set to 255. Min spin to 0. Tool enable is disabled. Tool direction mode is disabled. pwm-inverted not checked. pwm min duty is 1. pwm max duty is 99.99. pwm freq is 1000. Rapid auto off is checked. Dynamic power is always checked unless you need to test fire for setup. Uncheck it only when you are testing for laser accuracy. I use m3 s10 to fire it for testing under MDI. You should not need s59 to get it to fire. Iām not sure what settings will cause that to happen but try mine and see if you can lower it.
To make things easy and accurate I laser a 10mm grid on my wasteboard with straight lines running both x and y. Since the lines will be accurate for the laser only by using the touch pad on the screen which you can move 10 or 100mm at a time very accurately, for the router I use a .5 tapered nose bit to pin point a cross hair, say 100mm x 100mm intersection, and 0 it out there. Or if I need to laser a piece already clamped down I can move the laser over and test fire it on the corner of the piece until the fine blue dot created by the focused laser is pinpointed exactly on the corner. Then 0 out the laser there. No need to home because your new 0 is your home.
I use vetric which I recommend highly and it works very well with the laser. My go to setting is 100% power, 40mm per sec, .1mm stepover, fill regionally, and crosshatch. I will vary the speed to change the intensity of the burn. It depends on the wood and the depth of burn that you want, but I do it with speed rather than power to keep it as time efficient as possible.
Thanks Alden,
Am I incorrect to assume the spindle max-spin is just the scaling of the tool, ie. for a spindle 100% rotation speed is reached at an input of 255 and for a laser 100% power is reached at an input of 1000?
I canāt imagine Jtech suggesting an input of 1000 for max-spin was inaccurateā¦
Thanks again- Joe
I really donāt know what those settings represent, those are the stock settings and they work for me.
total noob here, so I have to ask. (I canāt get my newly installed laser to fire. In the Midi controll should you type M3Sxx or M03 (space) Sxx?
I typed M03 S20 and still got nothing. (Dynamic power setting was unchecked saved and rebooted)
There is a slide switch on the laser controller that manually fires the laser at full power. There is a also small red pushbutton next to it to enable the controller which youāll need to press once after turning the controller on. Does it fire when you move that switch? If not, then perhaps the laser isnāt wired up correctly or there is something wrong with the controller or laser module.
