Hey
I wondered if any one has or knows where to purchase a small aluminum magnet that I can use to hold parts down to the spoilboard?
Thanks
I saw some aluminum magnets at Harbor Freight last week. They’re in the same isle as the board stretchers.
no mike they have been moved to the muffler bearing section. Just FYI.
Thanks for the laugh!! I needed that as I have been sad waiting for the spindle.
right under the blinker fluid
I thought they were with the bottled air for changing the air in your tires every spring?
I was a high school shop teacher for 25 years. Every April Fools Day we in the Tech Dept. would send some poor student around the building looking for an aluminum magnet, a can of checkered paint, left handed allen keys etc.
I figured I had to keep the tradition going.
Well played Ken, well played!
We had 3 or 4 teachers who were in on it together. Spot the rube, send them for the left handed stapler, Mr Smith has it. No, he gave it to Mr Jones, go ask him. Uh uh, he gave it to coach Ballsack go ask him.
Give the new guy a Styrofoam cup and send for a cup of acetone (melts the cup instantly).
We had an automotive shop teacher who would find one kid every fall and tell him to change the tire beads. If he caught on quickly it would end there. If not he would go on to say tire beads are an internal way to balance tires. The beads would just go where needed when the tire would start to rotate.
These are a thing - some of my motorcycle buddies use them for dynamic balancing.
Kind of like the Snipe hunt on Cheers (if you’re old enough to remember)
We did the same thing… Styrofoam cup and Lacquer paint. Then make them clean it up.
Ken, maybe elaborating on your idea will help the rest of us help you. Right now what we see is someone asking for something that does not exist. Aluminum is non-magnetic so no such item could exist.
Tell us what you are trying to hold down and we will lead you in the correct direction.
It was an April Fool’s joke.
Hey now- I bought a floor sweep that is aluminum which picks up my loose nails and such very well… I did buy it at HF. It even releases when I pull the handle just right… - Hee Hee.

That’s a good one!
If your workpiece is ferrous (magnetic), you can use magnetic clamps or bases to secure it to the spoilboard. These magnets provide a strong hold and are especially useful for metal parts.
