I had my machine reset mid carve. I assumed it was high winds causing a brown out. So I started the carve again on a new area of the material. It reset in what seemed like the same point. I’ve tried various things, but the machine has reset multiple times.
Here is a list of causes I have eliminated:
- Problem with the GCODE: I had a reset while operating with the joystick, so the problem isn’t with GCODE.
- Vacuum overloading my 15A circuit: I moved the vacuum to a different circuit using an extension cord.
- Router causing the reset: I moved the router to a different circuit using an extension cord.
- Dull bit: I swapped out endmill for one with way fewer hours.
There must be some protection that is causing the reset. What things does the machine protect itself from? The problem likely isn’t a load problem (at least not directly). The last time it reset, it wasn’t even plunged into the material. It was moving between paths.
I am going to perform routine maintenance tomorrow. I used compressed air to blow over the lead screws and anything else that could get dust. Nothing was obvious - but I know if oily saw dust gets inside, it’s not going to be visible without some disassembly.
Any other debugging suggestions?
