Now that Masso 5.10 firmware is out has anyone tired it out with the RapidChange? Does this mean you don’t need to use the RapidChange macros? I assume with this one should be able to do all the setup / tool numbering on the Masso / put files anywhere on the drive and still have the RapidChange work?
I have not tried it but am sure we will be getting some insights into how it works in real life from Onefinity, Don, or users once they have had time with it.
It will not require macros (subroutines for Masso), but will work more like a ‘traditional’ Masso tool changer in the way it uses assigned inputs, outputs, various measured parameters, tool change logic, etc…
I believe Don tested a prerelease version and said it did not ‘break’ anything for his Easy ATC/RapidChange solutions
Two places to look for more information is the Masso manual and Don’s Masso section on his WebUI.
Thanks for the reply - you are right - some good info here about pros and cons of native masso vs rapidchange subroutines here:

I have been using my Rapid Change ATC for a while now ant it works perfectly as is, several hundred tool changes , no issues. Basically I have to run one subroutine one time to tell Masso which tool is in the spindle then no more , I am not likely to update the Masso for this as all is working great right now.
My 2 cents

That’s great to hear that their own implementation has been solid - I have a RC ATC on order / sounds like the ability to have a manual tool change as part of a carve alone might be the reason to stick with the RC subroutine route.
I didn’t mention that but if you use a surfacing bit very large you would need to use this feature, I also have the dust hood which in my opinion is necessary, not sure if 1F has this feature or not.

So what about 5.10B vs 5.10 ??? Not sure what I should download?
B is beta. We don’t recommend installing betas
Yes I got the 8 pocket version with a dust hooded - curious what you are using for a dust boot. Am just now realizing why OF did sensors for each turret - so that they could do a simpler boot attached to the spindle (which would block the sensor which RapidChange uses since it’s one sensor across all tool pockets). I like the look of the AutoDustBoot. But would value hearing about other options.
Yes But I need the stuff in V5.100B and I cannot tell if this same stuff is in v5.10?? Most companies drop the “b” beta when the full version is released…
ok so now I am wondering what version of masso came with my order. I got the machine about two weeks ago.
I do have the Francis Creations Auto Dust Boot, It works well for me but there is one issue many will have with it. I lose about 1.5 inches of Z clearance as the boot itself hangs below the bottom of the Z slider. I have mine setup to go as low as 1/8" from the spoil board surface to high enough to clear the ATC. All that said you can remove the dust boot in about 5 seconds to regain the clearance if machining thicker parts, you just lose dust extraction for that time, not ideal but again for me it does what I want. Very to install and configure and set for your material height.
Hope this helps.

I have seen a few of his videos recently. I was wondering how well the auto dust boot works. I didn’t think about the dust boot when i bought my ATC and i bought a new nighthawk dustboot.
The dust collection works as it should, I have a 2-1/2 hose from a large shop vac, I just needed one to work with the ATC from Rapid Change, I also have the Nighthawk boot which I liked as well.

I have a similar setup. 2.5" hose, 80mm spindle and the nighthawk. My ATC came with a new dust boot but i haven’t tried it.
How much was the auto boot?
Thank you, i appreciate it!
It is $349.00 USD, the other option I almost did was Ugly Dog, he has something similar but a bit more complicated in my opinion.
Pat
Thank you for the reply. I need to learn how to use my ATC first. I haven’t installed it or the rotary yet.
