I am all set up with my newly installed (have been holding on to it for about 4 months). However, the cable is about 6 inches shy of what I need to connect to controller.
So, this may be dumb, but I will ask it anyway. Can I use the old curly cable form my Z motor to power the laser? Not sure if the gauge will be ok or if it’s the same. Or if there any other issues or reasons to use it or not use it that you fine folks can think of.

Definitely not. You can get extension cables for the laser directly from @JTechPhotonics ! Reach out to them via their website.

You can find the extension cables here on the site. I would purchase a longer one if needed and it will work with the laser.
