I can envision being asked to duplicate parts, or perhaps need to cut a custom pocket for an oddly shaped hinge, etc., where getting a precise measurement of a component is necessary for creating a toolpath. Anyone have any experience or insight into the possibility of using a digitizing probe with the OF and Buildbotics controller?

When I researched this the cost of creating a duplicate using a probe was mostly the software that both ran the path for the digitizing probe, and more importantly knew what to do with the resulting XYZ data so it could be used in a CAM application. That, and the cost of the digitizing probe itself. Some forums I had visited earlier suggested it may be better to invest in 3D laser scanning technology which is faster. and can be more accurate and cost effective - still expensive though.
