RST1 file not updating

I bought and set up Raspberry Pi 5 and downloaded the RTS-X software from the Realtime CNC site for Apprentice, extracted the files from RTS1.1.2.2.tar.gz into the RTS1 folder. Plugged the USB into the Pi 5, no update screen pops up. The RTS1 folder does show in /media/xxxx/PI 5, no pop up to update into the Pi 5. Am I missing a step?

Nat,
The HMI will already be preprogrammed and you will not need to buy or program anything extra when your Gen 2 arrives.

From my understanding the HMI is not available for the Apprentice Series until late second quarter if stock is not used for the Elite Gen 2 Series.

Yes, true.

The software will be available for windows/mac before they ship. It’s just a program you’ll install, a .exe.

Update only works for an existing sytem. For a new raspberry pi 5 based system it is necessary to re image the SD card supplied with your starter kit. As supplied it will probably contain the standard “Bookworm” or latest “ Trixie” operating system.

The SD card image 1.1.0 is available on the RealTime CNC website along with instructions on how to Flash the image

Once you’ve flashed the SD card install it in your Pi and voila you have RTS X on your Pi. You will need to “Bypass Controller” as that will come with your machine.

To update to the latest version, it was just updated yesterday, connect the Pi to the internet and use the update feature provided on the “Main” menu.

I”m going to leave this up, but I missed CollinW’s response, but yeah, what they said, LOL.

Nat,

In order to install the RTS-X software for your Raspberry PI you need to “flash” the file you downloaded onto the microSD card that you will install into your Raspberry PI. Note when you use that file with the flashing software you use it as is and do not need to decompress it, etc.

RealtimeCNC has good instructions here: General - RealTime CNC Documenation Hub

You want to go down to the section in the below screen shot and that will walk you through the software you need to download and use on your local computer in order to flash the software onto the SD.

In essence, Realtime CNC is providing not only the RTS-X software in the download, but the whole operating system for your Raspberry PI, pre-configured to launch all the software automatically when the PI starts.

In any case, start at those instruction and if you still have stuff that isn’t working, feel free to ask more questions. Questions are good.

Cheers.
