SculptOK Depth Mapping software

Fascinating program I just tried called SculptOK. I was looking for ways to convert my son’s engagement pictures to a format that I can carve. I use Aspire/Vcarve. (Sorry this sounds like an ad, it isn’t)
The website is a little wonky, and there is no login, so that seems a bit strange. I still need to do a little research on the security of the site, since I’m uploading pictures and there is no login.
The results I’ve gotten are quite remarkable and fast. You upload a picture and it will give you four increasing depth of maps for your image. You then purchase “credits” to download the image you would like to use.
I didn’t subscribe, but just bought a $25 upgrade package. It works out to be around a dollar a download.
Has anyone else used this product? So far it’s pretty fascinating and has increased the quality and ease of mapping for Vcarve.

I have been looking for a way to convert images to 3D models for carving. I just tried this app on a few images and the results were impressive. Much better than other methods I have tried so far. This app might be the solution for a project I have been contemplating. Thanks for sharing!

When I went to the site it required me to log in or sign up before it would generate the “Free Try”.

I did look at their User Agreement and it looks like to use any image/depthmap created it requires you to have a commercial account. It also has several disclaimers that it owns any uploads and images generated from the uploads and the commercial license only grants use of the image and not ownership of them.

It is still an interesting find, but I do think you should check out the polices before jumping in to what looks to be an easy work-around. Just my thoughts!

That wasn’t my experience at all. I was able to do the free try multiple times and was never asked to sign in or get an account. I’m doing this as a hobbyist and not planning on selling anything (yet).

I’ll go back and see if I can find the disclaimers and figure it out. Thanks for the additional info. That’s why I posted.

To get to the Terms of Use scroll to the bottom of the first page and you will see the link.

Like I said it sounds interesting, that’s why I looked into it. I have a project in mind that if I could generate a 3d depth bit map it would save me a lot of time.

I am working on a 3 ft x 2 ft yard sign. I created this image using the Bing AI Image Creator.

Then I generated a depth map and corresponding stl file using SculptOK. There were some incorrect depths (depressions) that needed to be corrected. I used the Dzine AI Eraser (might have been able to use Microsoft Designer) to fix most of the issues. Then I used Mesh Mixer to fix the rest. I imported the final stl file into Vcarve and generated the toolpaths. Here is the final result.

I was really impressed with the AI generated images. I tried a few other AI image generation apps but Bing worked the best for me. This capability opens up a lot of possibilities for someone that is artistically challenged like me.
