Tool Setter on QCW

I upgraded my Woodworker x35 to the Elite. I also ordered the tool setter from OF. I mounted my tool setter to the QCW, but the router can not reach it. Am I missing something? I followed this video:

OF Tool Setter Install

Here are pics of what it looks like installed. (I is at least .5" off)

Is the Z slider in the lowest position (highest holes)

It is, but that is not the issue, when I am at Y=0, the bit is still about .5" from reaching the tool setter (in Y direction). I have no issue with it reaching the rigth depth in the Z direction. My pics probably did not show that clearly.

Did you ever get this resolved? My new set up is on order but surely this design was thought of and should reach all the way on the Y right?

I never received a solution on this, so I decided to mount my tool setter on the bed in the back left corner of my wasteboard. I think this works better anyway, as it is out of the way and I will never bump into it as I set up my material. After watching a few YT videos, I am thinking this is not an issue on the foreman QCW frames (I have the word worker)? Or perhaps the fact that I use the Z slider with the 65mm mount for the Makita makes the reach shorter in Y. These are just guesses. LMK if your experience is difference, there is also the possibility I screwed something up!

Interesting - well I sure hope it works with the spindle as all of their videos said it can be mounted and will reach/work

Did you order the WoodWOrker or Foreman? Please post an update when you get your machine setup, I am curious.

I ordered the foreman elite package with spindle etc. all of the QA said ATC and tool setter will be mounted on QCW. I wonder if it’s because of the size of the router. Also interesting because they now offer tool setter on BB with that adapter but it apparently doesn’t reach

I’m thinking its just the bracket that connects the tool setter to the QCW frame. My bits don’t land center of the tool setter either. I plan to grind about an 1/8" or so off of the bracket to get the tool setter closer to the QCW frame. That should do it… for “mine” anyway. The picture above looks pretty far away… don’t know what to say about that.

This comment is somewhat off-topic, so apologies for that. But this is something that anyone using a toolsetter may want to strongly consider doing. I did this before I even used it the first time. I cut a 1" disc out of an aluminum tag (1mm thick) and attached it to the toolsetter cap with a piece of carpet tape. This saves the original cap from damage.

I have 80mm spindle with bit setter and top loading qcw. i have additional spoil boards (2x) on top of stardard slats. i notched out the place for the bit setter and install. it sits lower than top of spoilboard. i’m not always mindful, so i wanted my shielded from stupidity.

works great. when doing full sheets(48x48), i leave it back just about 1/4 in to expose the bit setter. works pretty well that way. want atc, but not sure i have place to use it.

Good plan. I just modified mine because sometimes it just wasn’t out of the way enough, sat up too high for some of my fixturing, and the spring was just a bit harsh on my sharp 30 deg. V bits. So I came up with this setup that gets the tool setter off my tooling plate and well out of the way.

@Bern
Hey Bern, I have the woodworker X-50 that I upgraded to Elite. I also have it mounted to QCW. Mine works fine reaching the tool setter mounter on the front tube. I have the 80MM Z-20 spindle mount.

I was wondering what your X and Y settings are. Is it possible you are limiting the travel in the Y direction more than you need to?

Jay

From the pic that @Bern posted, it looks like he probably has a 65mm mount, which may explain his lack of reach.

Yes, I have the 65MM mount, but so does the 1F they used in the “official install video” here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4yHbQxBy7FA The only diff is that it looks like they use the Foreman, whereas I have a WoodWorker. Everything else is the same as far as I can tell (upgraded Z slider).

No limits set in X or Y. Maybe I will throw the mount back on today and take some better pictures. I won’t put the setter on it because I have it all wire managed in its current location.

Well, that is strange… seems like it should reach per their video.
