This router has a 3" spindle, and I’m thinking that it’s probably 80mm. I’m making a trip to Rockler today with calipers to find out for sure. If I’m correct, is there any reason this wouldn’t work if I bought the beefier 80mm spindle carriage?
i originally had this idea and wanted to use the makita 2.25hp as it is only 83mm. This router now sits in my router table as it does not work. the motor portion of the router is wider than the base and interferes with the z axis, you need the constant 80mm throughout. also i believe they draw more than 10amps at start up which would blow the fuse. save the headache, get a spindle or just do the 1.25hp makita. still buy the 80mm and use a reducer if necessary for what you decide, this way you can expand. this is on the elite.
