USB Shenanigans

I’ve been finishing up an Elite upgrade and ran into a problem with the touch screen becoming unresponsive when the controller was turned on. The E-Stop engage and disengage were fine but after that I couldn’t home or do anything else.

Turning the controller off and then back on, sometimes several times, fixed the problem and the screen would become responsive and everything would work fine. I ran a file through it and all was ok.

I eventually tracked down the problem to the thumb drive I was using. A brand new Verbatim 32gb “ToughMAX”. With a different brand thumb drive all worked as it should. I tried doing a full (slow) Fat32 format on the Verbatim it but it still caused problems on the Masso, though it works fine on the computer.

Who would have thought a thumb drive could lock up the machine? I only clued in when I started thinking about how the touch part of the screen is driven over USB. Hmmmm …
