V-Bit Carving toolpath Z cutting in the air

Greetings Y’all, this is Mike, and I need some help figuring out what’s going on with the V-Carve of a letter on my project. I’m trying to cut a letter .125” deep inside a .25” deep circle pocket. When it starts the toolpath the X and Y drive to the correct location and the Z goes down but stops about an inch from the surface. It goes through the motions of carving the letter for a while, then it drives down on the wood and cuts the letter rough and too deep.

It looked good in my Carveco simulation, and I watched more YouTube tutorials to match their toolpath settings, but the solution has evaded me. I have uploaded a screencap of the toolpath and a video of the action.

I hope someone can help me find a solution.

Great Thanks for allowing me to upload the video. So basically every time I try to carve a letter this is what the machine does. Please review and tell me what y’all thing is the issue. I really appreciate your welp.

One quick correction. This toolpath was a test cut at the surface of the project blank. I manually zero and axis.

Not sure as I use Vcarve. If I were my tool path would start at a depth of .25 and a cut depth of .125. It appears you are starting at 0 and ending at .125. Don’t use Carveco but that’s just what it looks like to me.
