VFD Settings Getting Corrupted

I have a Huanyang 2.2kW VFD which works correctly when all the parameters are set. However, it seems as though the settings get corrupted after being powered off for a period of time (yet to be determined how long exactly before the settings are lost). Most of the settings seem set to values that indicate “all one” (such as 655.35) or just random values beyond even the normal programmable values.

Has anyone ever seen this before? I have the Parameter Lock (PD000) set to 1 so in theory, nothing should be able to modify the parameter values.

Is it possible for Modbus from the Onefinity BB controller to corrupt the values somehow even with the Parameter Lock set?

Hey www,

the unreliability of Huanyang VFDs is known. If you read the cnc forums, you find often that they fail and no one knows why. And get replaced.

But like all electronics, bad grounding can destroy it. Be sure to have your machine correctly grounded.

A VFD is a device intended to be enclosed into a grounded VFD control cabinet, the spindle motor cable must be shielded and properly terminated, and the machine must be correctly bonded and grounded.

Thanks, Aiph5u. Yeah, I’m pretty sure it’s all properly grounded. I guess I could look into getting a different brand but they’re far harder to get here in Canada economically. Again, it seems to work okay and hold its settings for a period of time but over a few hours, it seems as though those settings get lost. I was originally wondering if there was some sort of button battery to retain the settings but I don’t think there is.
