I often use my CNC to digitize the profile of a live edge piece of wood so I can design my project to fit the shape more precisely. I currently use a 30 degree V-bit and manually follow the perimeter and then manually write down the coordinates. It would be wonderful if I could touch a button and have the coordinates saved to a file.
Beefier Y axis rails and ball screws. 50mm rails and 1616 ball screws like X50 rails? Needed for Woodworker and Journeyman. Reasonably priced through IPP exchange.
A replacement for the BB controller, thats not as expensive as the Masso. Maybe the Acorn from centroid. I understand the impact of introducing yet another controller but im not sure how long the existing BB controller can/should be supported.

Until that is incorporatedā¦here is what works for me. Place the item you want to digitize on a white surfaceā¦paper, poster board, or similar. Carefully trace the outline with black sharpie. Take a digital picture of outline⦠from squarely above. Import and trace image in your Cad software, scale it to dimensions of actual piece and voila⦠Near perfect shape and size.

I like that idea. Iāll have to give it a try. My CNC software can trace an image and generate curves. I could then export those curves as a DFX and import that into CAD. For some projects I wouldnāt even need to export to CAD since Iām just trying to get the shape for creating toolpaths that fit inside the shape.
What software is that?
Rotary - for all machines! A lot of people have requested rotary for the Elite line. The Elite is great, but doing this would severely limit the customer base.
An option to add a small wifi router in the CNC so existing wifi in the shop is no longer a requirement
Dust blockers for the rails - Many users have cut long strips of fabric or plexiglass and mounted them to the inside of the Y-axis rails. Something like this made clear vinyl would be a great addition.
One user created a break-out board for the buildbotics controller. I canāt remember his name, but either buying the rights to that off of him and selling it or offering his board on the website would be a good move.

YES! I so wish Onefinity would consider making a mount for this. Iām one thatās not afraid to get my hands dirty so to speak, but personally I donāt care to mess around with VFD and coolant lines, etc. But one of these type spindles would be perfect.
I wonder what the cost is for one of these milling motors?
I priced the 110v version, and it was just under $400 on sale. That was early last summer.
Looks like a good affordable solution if not wanting to go full VFD.
Support rotary axis on Elite machines please.

This is EACTLY what I was referring to in my post above and what @Aiph5u was talking about as well. This is a 43mm Euro Mount Milling Motor. Hammer my thumbs up on the post above if you want as well.

VFDās donāt play well with GFCI outlets. In my current situation I would love to upgrade to a spindle but canāt find a way around it as GFCI outlets are current code for my garage. My options are to violate building codes to get a spindle or stay with the Makita router. Neither one feels good.
A 110v milling motor solves these problems and provides quick change for bits to boot.

I use a vfd on a 3 phase motor on a gfci without issue. I would be curious for more details here. Is the issue actually a lack of proper grounding specifically with a spindle?
Apparently, VFDās introduce some sort of harmonic noise in the background that the gfci interprets as a short. From what I understand if youāre not tripping your circuit youāre pretty lucky. Although Iām definitely commenting from the sidelines as I have no experience with a VFD at this point.
I did contact the manufacturer about this and I was basically told they didnāt have a good answer. I was told a lot of people simply swap out the GFCI for a normal outlet. However, in my part of the world thatās against building code. Should something happen where thereās a short and the house burns down then it would be all on me and insurance wouldnāt cover it.

Ive been using the x35 woodworker for nearly 3 years now. and its been fantastic. way better than I could of hoped for. Ive probably got 1000s of hours on the machine.
Id love to see a simple maintenance pack. What iām needing, is new set screws, and bolts for the z slider, I would also love it if contained all the right tools for the maintenance. I got a messy shop and can never find the right hex key.
perhaps a decent brush for cleaning the ball screws could be included as well as oil.
just a thought.
