Worm Screw/Stepper Motor frozen

I just received my 1F, one of the Worm Screw/Stpper Motors does not move by hand. Is it safe to remove the motor to see if that is binding or is it safe to plug in and see if a powered motor will move it?

Does the screw not turn with the Z motor unplugged? That would indicate some sort of mechanical bind or possibly a short in the motor wiring. I would disassemble the Z axis if you’re comfortable in doing so, to find out where the potential bind is coming from. Otherwise, contact Onefinity support and they will ensure that you are taken care of.

Unplugged, was hard to turn. I found the video on disassembly and took off the motor to test. Feels like some kind of binding going on. I am in contact with support, hopefully they just send me another motor.

Binding of the motor or the screw with the motor removed?

Binding with motor removed from worm screw.

Understood. Stepper motors can feel like they’re binding if 2 of the winding wires happen to be shorted. Makes it very difficult to turn. Could be internal in the motor or in the short pigtail harness coming from the motor.

Ok got a reply from them, they sending a new motor. Thanks for your help. Good times!

If it’s not one thing it’s another!

Ughh

Now my z stepper motor won’t turn the screw. Sounds as if it’s binding but I have no idea on what. It was working fine. Did a tool change then it will no longer home or reach my project.
