Y-Axis Occasional Glitch loss of y-reference

I’ve had the Journeyman X50 for about 3 years. I have had an intermittent problem of losing the y-axis reference mid-cut but don’t know how to diagnose the cause of the problem.

I’ve seen the screen turn black on a couple occasions when this happened and I’ve since vacuumed out all the wire connection ports and reconnected and think I fixed that.

I’ve also restarted the machine and sometimes the machine won’t re-home on the y-axis and will get stuck somewhere far from the home position.

Separately, I’m in cold Minnesota so this problem was happening OFTEN when it was extremely cold outside - 0F - and hasn’t but on intermittent occasion lately.

Any ideas for troubleshooting would be greatly appreciated. It’s only the y-axis that has this problem so I believe there IS a problem but I don’t know if it has now been corrected or not but want to be prepared if it happens again.

Thanks,

Chris

Have you checked Y axis connections? The cold weather may be making a sketchy connection even worse. Check the pins in their sockets are good. Sometimes they have been pushed back.

Thanks, Just checked them out, they look to be good but both y-axis connections do have some “wiggle” to them which I’m guessing is normal. I’ll be doing some higher volume cutting in the next few weeks, after some time off, so I just want some ideas as to what to look for if this problem occurs again. Our temps are back in the 50’s and above so maybe that’s all it will take.
