Using Illustrator, I created the vectors for an Arrowhead box joint. Imported into V Carve. It seems to work great, and I like the fit. It does require vertical mounting for a box, not so if joining two flat boards.
I think I can upload the V Carve file if anyone is willing to see if my directions make sense. If so, it might be worth creating various other joints.
Have never uploaded a file, hope this works. (used for cremation box)
Wow @WmColl46 , that is just beautiful. Have to give that a try myself but have a few other projects in the schedule first, including setting up vertical clamping on my machine. Do you have any other joints in the pipeline?
Off-Kilter, I’ve updated the vcarve upload with more notes. The file really looks confusing at first glance, but if I can get it, anyone can. I do have other joints I’m eventually going to try.
photo just my version of a vertical clamping method, a clamping box hidden under the wasteboard…
@WmColl46 Just wondering, looking at your setup, do you have to unscrew those tracks and panels, slide them back out of the way and then unscrew and remove the panel covering clamping box in order to use your vertical clamping setup? Couldn’t you just cut the track and panels to fit the cover panel and screw the whole assembly in place? Barring that, I really like how you’ve set your machine up.
From the photos you can see the cuts in the t-track and seam around the brown bottom piece. Looks like the whole thing slides out and reveals the space for the vertical clamping setup.
How the heck did you get the head of the clamp through that hole? I have a buh zillion of those Irwin clamps and not one of them has a removable head …
Hi, yes the tracks are cut and the hidden lid lifts out to reveal the clamping box. Currently have hand screw knobs on the top three center wasteboards. Undo, slide them back, lift the lid. Some where on the site are some early stage photos of the table construction. It also folds. Happy to answer questions or send photos.
Hi, I did have to file the rivets off the ends of the clamps. My first choice is the orange Jorgensen clamp as the head is easier to slide back on.
The trick with the Irwin clamps…as you slide the head off, keep a tight grip on the release trigger while the head is off, and if lucky it will slide back on ok. If not it’s a pain to get back on the bar…
