BB firmware update information

I got lucky and found a 2020 Woodworker 32x32 that had never been opened. I have just cut the paper tape on the outside and checked the parts.

I’m sure the controller is from 2020 timeframe and out of date firmware wise.

I’m wondering: Do I have to actually build the machine to update the firmware

OR

Can I bring the contoller into my office where I have WIRED INTERNET access, plug up the controller to the network and update the firmware that way without having the motors hooked up to the controller?

I’m computer literate, been a CS with 3 major computer companies in the past 45 years.

But some things I actually need to ask about before I screw them up.

Thanks in advance.

you could update the controller without building the machine or you can build the whole machine and then upgrade the controller later you don’t have to do it via Wi-Fi updates can be done via USB stick off-line

Went to the storage building today and brought the controller and 7" screen to the house. The initial firmware version was 1.0.2. First bootup I couldn’t it to recognize the network, didn’t see the wifi. It did see the wired network and had a local ip address, but I couldn’t get it to go outside to a website.

I downloaded the 1.6.4 update to a thumbdrive and plugged it in. I wasn’t sure if it would see it or not. But when I did the upload. the file structure popped up and file was there. Clicked on it and it took about a minute to run the update. When it finished I was able to check updates on the web, configure my network and wifi, rebooted and then did another update from the web.

Then I pinged it from my Mac to verify it was actually on my network.

All in all, I think it was a very good day.

Thanks for the help.

Now to get it to my building and build the machine (and order some upgrades).
