I’m looking at buying the Elite Woodworker & after some research i’ve a few questions hopefully you good people can answer? I’m new to woodworking CNC’s but have 4no 3D printers, a small diode laser CNC & a CO2 laser CNC so i’m not a complete noob. Also, i’m not worried about ‘running before i can walk’ in terms of what i buy. I’ve set aside a month full time to play with it and get up & running. If it takes 2,3 or 4 months then that’s ok. I’m also aware that to fully get to grips with it will take a lot longer. Budget is also not a show stopper but space is, at least for the moment.
So far my list is…
80mm spindle mount
Stiffy
3-axis touch probe
Easy-Z tool setter
Infinite dust collection kit.
Cable extension set
Bits i’ll get here in the UK
Questions are…
The Elite comes with infra red homing sensors but there is a Masso homing sensor as an option. Presumably the Masso one is a replacement/upgrade, is it more accurate? Worth getting?
I’m looking at the Inifinte dust boot kit but any recommendations for anything else?
I already have an S&A dual circuit water chiller so will get a water cooled spindle. Any recommendations from long term users would be appreciated.
I also already have a Makita router so is it possible to buy the 65mm mount as well so that i have back up if the spindle goes south?
Aside from the bits in my list above is there anything else worth adding to save shipping or anything else non-Onefinity?
Looking at recent posts and the website i’m looking at circa 9 weeks to take delivery. Is this correct?
Lastly, the web info states ‘Supported in Canada and USA’. As i’m in the Uk does this mean i’m on my own if anything fails or is it simply a case of paying for the shipping for replacement parts etc?
Thanks in advance, any help or advice very much appreciated.
I would skip thinking about using the Makita as a backup. I have a cheap Chinese water cooled spindle and it hasn’t had even the slightest issue. I was just using a bucket of water with a small pump to feed it. If I did long carves (hours) it would get slightly warm to the touch.
I’ve upgraded to a larger pump with a radiator from a car for cooling simply because I want to add a vacuum table using commercial vacuum cleaner motors. They will overheat if they don’t have cooling.
If your chiller actually has freon and actively cools I think you’ll find it’s overkill. If it’s one that just has a fan and a radiator then you’ll be fine. If it was me I would invest in a second spindle (if I was using the 1F to make money) before a 65mm mount.
That’s great, thanks. I’ll probably order a couple of spare sensors then to keep just in case. I have to replace these on occasion on my current kit, albeit they are mechanical limit switches and easier to damage.
Thanks. I had a nose through previous posts on the dust boots and noted that these were fairly old. With the recent release of RR’s ‘Swinger’ and possibly others i thought i’d see if the Infinite kit was still the one to get? I already have the Makita router but the intention was to only use this as a spare & run with a spindle from the start.
Thanks again. Looking at the lead times for the Chinese spindles i can get one delivered in a few days should i need to but if reliability isn’t an issue then i guess this isn’t much of a concern. As you say i’ll probably keep a spare as & when i’m up & running.
The chiller is a refrigerant based cooler but i still have the pump setup used prior to buying the cooler so will use this instead. Good to hear that this will do the job.
