I would love to make one of these.
Could you explain the mechanism that moves them in a little bit of detail because that’s what’s stopping me.
Nice job.

Hi Ed,
It is driven by a Neg’ator (s) sring (much like retraction spring in a steel tape rule). The device is wound by holding the rear wheel and turning the front clockwise for a specific number of turns. The spring ‘motor’ rides with the back wheel (thus where it is wound) and is detented with clicks/dogs. The whole affair is really quite simple but wondersome as it operates.

This particular model is titled “Zinnia”. It was designed by Clayton Boyer and you can purchase his plans by contacting him at moalanikai@yahoo.com.

That sir is a thing of beauty. It is an example of what has me looking forward to getting one at end of year. Thanks for sharing the picture and settings so those of us starting have an idea of what to do.

I purchased this dxf file on Etsy. My daughter wanted this for her room. I’ve been struggling with getting this done. After finally purchasing a used PC (I’m a Mac guy) and getting Carveco Maker+, as well as ditching Easel, I successfully made a small test piece out of pine. I’m now in the process of a large test piece made from oak. Total carve time will be approx 10hrs.

Looks like it is turning out really nice! What are the bits you used?
Thanks

Thanks, time will tell! I used a 1/4” down cut for the rough out and then the finishing is with Amana 46280-S

Starting off slow and simple making some baby rattles. The pucks at either end are ambrosia maple and the 1F cut them like butter at 4000mm/min

Alphabet puzzle boards are coming together as well.

I was going to wait until this was completely done and I took proper photos in my studio before I posted more pics, however I couldn’t help myself. I am so happy with how this turned out.
DXF files was purchased on Etsy. I used Carveco Maker+ for adjustments and creating the code for the machine. Next up will be same style piece but in black walnut.

The finish is incredible, is that out of the machine or did you sand it?

Prior to putting the finish on, I just gave it a light sand with 220 grit to clean up a few rough spots from how the grain was running. Overall, it came out fairly smooth to the touch. I was pleasantly surprised.
