Dusty,
I purchased it from Street Tree Revival here in Orange County. It is Walnut and about 15x16 if I recall correctly.
That is an inlay of brass epoxy. Here is reel I did of the before and after.
This is the Egyptian Dark King in my 4 sided chess set project. Just put the danish oil on it for stain. I may make a video on how to do this if there is enough interest.
Holy freaking fantastic!
Would love to see how you did thatā¦Very nice and opens up lots of possibilities without a 4th axis.
Do they have a video on stacking these toolpatchs in Maker+ I am using the basic version of Carveco and I donāt think it has the same functionality. Just a roughing and then a finishing pass.
There is a video but I will have to look for it this evening.
Nick, are the pins in the 4 corners magnets or just dowels to hold the cages together?
Magnets! The cage halves are glued.
Thanks Nick! So the purpose of the magnets just keep the cage attached to the base when not used correct?
Just to keep everything together and aligned, yes. Since the base only captures the cage in one direction I use the magnets for the other axis. You can actually pick up the whole assembly by the cage when in the stored position.
Nick, thatās a really good setup!! Thanks for sharing!
I am planning on doing a YouTube video at some point on the design and build!
Itās not as impressive as the other projects here, but since it involved cutting into the extension table on my new SawStopā¦Iām impressed I got the courage up to do it.
The side and bottom channels are for t-tracks, with the round entry holes set at the exact depth of the t-track bottom once installed. I had to reinforce the underside of the tableā¦it would not have supported the weight of the lift, router, and dust box.
Thanks for reminding me this is another of those projects Iāve yet to completeā¦all of the materials but just havenāt gotten around to it yet for various reasons. (too many other cool projects for my 1F)
I think Iāll add your entry hole height detail idea when I do mine.
I just hope turns out as good as yours.
This is terrific. Beautiful execution. You are, indeed, a brave soul - one slip and itās hundreds to Sawstop for a new unit.
I have a Powermatic 66 (Her name is Medusa). These saws came with a 28" rather than a 27" deep table. Canāt get that table anymore, so I wonāt cut into it. The hunt for a 28" extension table with a router plate cutout just hasnāt been successful. There is one solution from Incra that uses a spacer setup. It costs a million dollars.
So, Rockler sells a 28" wide work table top:
and carving this layout into it today (It is for the Jessem sized plates):
Your entry points are a great idea - I will integrate them into my design. If I botch it, Iām out $80 for the ruined table and $80 for the chance to try again (20% coupon). If it works well and anyone wants a copy of the .crv, Iām happy to send it along, N/C.
Again, congratulations on your bravery, skill, and your beautiful project.
Jim
Itās not a bad idea to do multiple trial runs on plywood before you cut into the expensive table top. I think I used nearly a full 4x8 sheet before I was certain I had the measurements right.
Yes - Iām watching it appear on a piece of MDF as I type. Not sure things are the same where you live, but that $25 4x8x3/4 sheet of MDF is now up to $60. Gotta look at it in a new way!
Thank you Joe. Your bee box is spot on!!!
