Post up them projects

That looks really good. Nice and clean.

Thanks Frank, that’s one of the reasons I really like this stuff, it machines very nicely.

Hi Bill, Do you have a good source for that HDPE? Looks nice

Thanks Ron, I get it from Inventables. Their prices seem decent, although the sizes & color selections are limited.

I’m currently using Vectric Aspire.

Batching a few signs out today on some reclaimed pine. Need to paint and the do a second carve on the smaller ones.

I forgot to post this earlier this month. I started with a download from the ventric web site. The lid my first attempt at two sided cutting. It worked but I didn’t get the lid lip centered as you can see. The bottom is a piece of 1.75 thick walnut, the top is cherry. It’s about 5.5" sq. I bought the 3d rose from design and make for $10.00. Cheaper than the real thing!

Alex how did you apply the black to the cut edge created when removed from the plank or were the words removed prior to any painting ?

Hey David, the back and front are all one piece of wood. Then when I was done/done I did add 1 extra piece of 1/8" ply to make sure it was super solid as the carve took the back section down to 1/8" and being pine I was worried about it drying/cracking over the years.

As far as painting, I carved it completely then painted the whole thing hammered bronze spray paint. After letting it dry for a day I ran my 1" surfacing bit over the surface to take .02" off which exposed the pine again. Lastly, I sprayed hammered clear over the whole thing to finish it off and make the finish uniform.

Hope that helps!

Very Cool!!! Keep us posted on how it turns out.

Not finished, but close. I’m thinking of turning it into a small table.

Hard to tell from the pic but I’m pretty proud of getting this to work. Laser engraved my daughter’s name on her tumbler. As you can see the old way (sharpie). But hooked a rotary up to my onefinity and used vcarve desktop and an edited post processor and new settings for the rotary in the motor settings page. But so far it’s working pretty good.

You should be proud. Fantastic.

Thanks! I think the hardest part so far for me is trying to dial in the right laser settings for different materials.

It’s all beyond me I have a long way to go.
