I was carving a true 3D carve Matt. I modeled mine in Aspire. I think I started with the last name, then merged it with the first names while raising them up about .1 higher. Then I added the text and clipart below. Finally I selected everything and added a 22 degree draft on the sides. When modeling text and images, you can choose the shape profile, limit the base height, final height, and then merge or combine them all. Do you have Aspire?? See my screenshots below…
I left the bark on the backside and machined the top flat prior to doing the carving. Clamping was tough because of the shape.
I have carbide create pro and it has 3d modeling. I didn’t do a round over, just flat, but I would think I shouldn’t have that kind of “chatter” with a step over of 8%. I’m going to keep playing around with it and hopefully get some things figured out.
Thanks
Pocket clean 2.5mm End Mill. Double engrave 30 deg 0.05". Second, pass 0.001 deeper to clean fuzzies. Solid Maple. Design with Vectric Aspire.
Very nice, good depth.
I’m working on a simpler championship sign. I didn’t like the first try, I’ll post it when I’m happy with it. Your first one is great.
Useless trivia… in 1976 I worked at a Pontiac dealership that happened to be the closest dealer to the factory. Lots of people came there to pick up their cars because it saved $$$ on the destination charge (back before it became a flat-rate). Anyway, the Buffalo Bills picked up a 1976 LeMans wagon from there. Not sure who actually picked up the car, but I thought it was cool at the time.
A LeMans wagon - classic. Wood paneling on the side??
Lol, as a matter of fact I think it did!
Lou Saban(Nick Saban’s father) was coach for part of that year, maybe it was him.
That’s really clever BJ. Thanks for sharing.
What software are you using? Ty
Hi Darren, I use Vectric VCarve Pro for my software.
