Pumpkin pie dish (need help with vectric design)

im trying to cut the pumpkin pie dish from vcarve but its cutting to deep cuts all the way through the material what am i doing wrong? im new and lost any help would be appreciated.

So in V-Carve you can select top of material or top of spoil board for your Z zero position in the setup of the file

The other possiblility is did you set your material thickness using a probe?
If you didn’t then the machine doesn’t know where to start cutting from

Yes i did use a probe. It cut all the way through the bowl part.

Send us the V-carve file so we can look at the toolpaths

Pumpkin Pie Dish.crv (16.9 MB)

Unfortunately I have version 11.5 of V-Carve and this is the newer version.
Maybe one of our other members can take a look for you.

i got the file off vectrics website not sure if that would help you see whats going on. its a free file

This is the job setup so you are zeroing off the top of your material and its a little over an inch and a half thick right?

So I was able to download the file from vectrics site.
The project is set up for a material top Z zero setup
However there’s multiple toolpaths to do the various components for the project.
Each would require toolpath tweaking such as DOC and speeds and feeds.
Whenever you are using a file created by someone else always do an aircut to see how the machine behaves. ( eg.don’t assume the post processor is correct)
Saves crashing your machine and wasting material

right at 1.5 i did change that and the feeds and speeds cause it was running crazy fast. but it still cut all the way through the bowl part so I don’t know what else i am missing.

It could be the model height.
You can change the position of where in the material the piece is cut from.

how is that done? everytime i do a carve like this i cant get it to turn out i know its me i just dont know what im doing wrong. always seems to cut to deep.

thank you all for your help i do appreciate it. thanks for taking time out of your day to help me.

Model position can be changed in the toolpaths. The stock file you have provided here should have almost a .3" difference between the waste board and the bottom of the bowl before you flip it. If you are cutting the “top” the deepest any of the tool paths go is 1.28". I would guess you aren’t setting the Z zero correctly somehow. If you are using a touch probe its possible you have the offsets wrong. I am unsure which controller you are using but I would switch and just try the paper method to set your zero on the top of the workpiece. I dont know how to set the offsets for the probe on the Redline so I cant advise anything there. I am a Masso user.

I use masso also. i haven’t had an issue with my touch probe. its only when i do a 3d carve that I have an issue with so it’s something I’m doing wrong just don’t know what.

Are you running it as a single file or each step its own file?

one file for the top one for the bottom one.

What I would try next is basically an air carve of the deepest section. Not sure which tool path was the one that cut all the way through your work but I would set your Z to zero when you are something like 3-4 inches above your waste board with nothing on it. Then I would run that single tool path and looking at your work coordinates see what the lowest it goes to. If it only drops to -1.28" I would measure to see if thats what it actually dropped. If it dropped more that 1.28" I would verify your gcode to see what it lowers to then I would look into possibly your calibration on the z axis motor.

swept profile 1 is when it cut through the bottom. but wouldn’t the calibration on the z axis affect other projects?

so when i recalculate it to be 1.5 instead of the 1.5748 is there anything else i should change or does it do it automatically?
