Solved: Woodworker is cutting short along my Y axis

Hi I started up my cnc after a winter break today and started cutting my speaker cabinets. After running ok for the first few minutes of a 15 min cut it started cutting a different pattern that was a shorter height than the gcode and simulation were showing. I attached a pic showing the cuts made with the red arrowa that should have been done where the green arrow is.
Does anyone know what could be causing this.

The issue is happening along the Y axis. The machine is not moving the correct distance along the Y axis. It moves correctly along the X axis.
I am cutting expensive birch here too. I uploaded my gcode file here too,

Its like the machine is losing the Zero position I set for the Y axis while it is cutting.

The machine is moving rapidly along the Y axis before stopping short along the Y axis. Maybe I need to somehow slow this movement down?
My firmware version is 1.2.1

The Max Velocity setting in my Firmware are set to 10 for the motors. Can I reduce this number so it slows down the Y movement?

Thanks guys any help appreciated!

I reduced my Max Velocity setting on my Y Axis from 10 to 5 and I ran an Air Cut by raising the Z axis zero.
This time the cut ran fine and did not stop short!

Too late at night to cut now. I will try it first thing in the morning with the new Max Velocity settings and see how it goes.

Hey Guy,

you did not tell which machine you have. Depending on the model/age you may have problems with lacking strain relief which leads to connection errors on the stepper cables/connectors a few weeks or monthes after first use of the machine. This mainly would affect X and Z errors.

But even if you have the newest PRO or Elite model with drag chains, the cables are a weak spot on the Onefinity machines. The connectors used are not made for external use on moving parts and the stepper motor cables are all not shielded.

There are, of course, many more possible causes for your issue. I would check the points in this support document one by one.

Also is your machine properly rectangular (“squared”) (bar gauge) and coplanar (“not twisted”) (fishing line method)? If both are not adjusted accurately the Y axis movement can block, loose steps, or have “hiccups”.

Changing MAX Velocity for my Y axis from 10 to 5 solved my issues!

Hi Aiph5u. My machine is the original Woodworker with the Stiffy. It was purchased in Aug 2023.

Thanks for the link on the info on Rails getting hung up. I will go through that carefully next week.
For now its cutting fine with the reduced Max speed on the Y axis.

Time to assemble some speaker cabinets!

Cheers

I took my X axis off last week and opened up the Ball nut on both my Y axis.
I noticed my left Y rail was harder to move by hand than my right rail (with cnc turned off).
I gave the ball joints on both rails a cleaning and a proper lube job.
Now I have the machine running fine at Max Velocity at 10 instead of 5!
The video below shows the process.

I also installed a proper dust collection system.
Goes to show that proper lubrication and cleaning can solve many issues!

Cheers.
