You could try the USB wifi adapter mentioned in this post Support for USB network adaptors (Feature Unavailable) - #22 by garrett1812
Might need to edit the file as shown in this post to get it to work properly.
I did the external antenna mod shown here and it seems to have improved my signal strength. It is fairly difficult to solder the tiny antenna lead though.
