Immediate Z error when home after restart

I got a Z error while a project was running and actively cutting, Z was constant.
I tried to home that machine and got the same Z error as soon as it started homing after the double tap.
I had the braking Z motor on and changed back to the factory motor to see if that was the issue. No change.
I removed the home requirement when restarting and both X and Y can be moved manually.
I have checked the wire connections, all are fine.

Any ideas?

I’d first check the state of the Z home sensor, on the F1 screen. And then make sure that it’s clean, and not in direct sunlight.

Not in sunlight
clean
The light is red, when i a manually break the beam the light goes off.
This tripped during a carve yesterday with no apparent fault or issue.
Multiple power cycles of the controler.

F1 shows
Z Alarm is High
Z Home Sensor is Low
After Controller restart Z Alarm still shows high

I have no direct experience troubleshooting Masso motor alarms, but hopefully this Masso troubledshooting guide can help you out.

Great service from OneFinity and Mitz.

That’s great news, and thanks for closing the loop. That alarm-clearing process is good to know.

Here is the faq to clear alarms

The real solution was a loose power connector on the Z motor. Voltage check covered in the article below identified the issue. I added electrical tape side to side over the connectors and the problem was solved,
