No signal on Screen / No video output from BB controller - Troubleshooting Video

If the screen is turning on and showing a blue splash screen but no input video, try the following:

(this should be an obvious first step, but make sure everything is plugged in exactly as this faq shows (a lot of people forget the wall power plug): How to connect the Touch Display (7, 8, 10.8"))

  1. Ensure the Big Red Physical Estop on the black control box is up/released. Twist and pull up hard to release it. The controller will not turn on (no lights, no fan sound from inside the box) and not signal will be sent if the estop is pressed in. The screen has it’s own power, so it will power up and just show a blue splash screen and nothing else if the control box isn’t powered on.
  1. Plug a different device (dvd player, xbox/ps, cable box, etc) into the screen and see if it displays video. If it does, the screen is fine.

  2. Try a different hdmi cable. This will determine the hdmi cables status

  3. Try a different USB cable for power, from the Lightening bolt usb c port on the side of the screen to the power brick.

  4. Try a different Power brick (5v 3amp minimum).

  5. Plug the controller into any other screen/tv/monitor and see if it outputs video to the screen. if it does, the controller is good. if not, the controller is not.

  6. *Only do this if #4 doesn’t work. Open the back of the controller (make sure all power is unplugged first). There is a short hdmi pigtail inside. Bypass the pig tail and plug the hdmi cord directly to the raspberry pi chip inside. If it works, then the pigtail is bad. You can purchase a replacement hdmi pigtail here: https://www.onefinitycnc.com/product-page/replacement-hdmi-internal-control-box-pigtail. If not, go to #7

  7. Sometimes the drivers become corrupted. Try reflashing the SD card with a fresh install of the OS: How to reflash the operating system on the Onefinity BB controller (Full SD card image)

HDMI PORT DEAD:

If non of the above works but the fan turns on and the raspberry pi lights up along with the power switch( and you can connect via network), it’s highly probable the off the shelf raspberry pi 3 b inside HDMI port has failed and needs to be replaced. A user can do this themselves with this part (MUST be a pi3 b only, no other variants will work) for less than $100.
