Newbie here.
How can I get my makita to plunge lower so I can surface my spoil board. I have my makita on the lowest setting on the mount and it bottoms out on the z before i can reach the spoil board. Im using a 1/4 - 3 wing bit thats 1.5" long. Does one have to double up the height of spoilboard? photos for reference.
I’m in the same exact boat. Just got mine setup today and facing the same issue. I thought it maybe the 80mm mount that I have with a shimmed Makita router (my PWNCNC arrives mid March) but I see you have the 65mm mount. I see that on QCW table the machine sits lower than the table and then the spoilboard added on top. I’m thinking on shop built tables like yours and mine maybe a “double thick” spoilboard must be used when using a Makita router. Then again I could be wrong. I’m still investigating myself.
this is the way the Onefinity’s Z assembly is designed. It does not allow the milling motor mount to protrude downward beyond the end of the Z rails. See here and here for explanation.
You would likely have to remount the z-slider to allow you a little further reach. Otherwise yes you’d have to build up your spoilboard. Onefinity recommends like a couple inches of spoilboard or something in their manual.
There are also longer mortising bits like this one. Smaller diameter so it will take longer. Just another possible option besides a thicker waste board.
I can share one, but I have the Z-20 and also use a spindle so not sure how much help it’ll be. Did you see this? Z Mounting Hole Pro/Con This may be of help. Let me know if you still want the pic
You’re issue is covered in the manual.
You have a Foreman and the makita router, which uses the taller x50 rails on the Y rails versus the shorter x-35 rails on the journeyman and woodworker. Therefore, you must install 2 pieces of 3/4 mdf stacked on top of each other to reach, especially with short bits like a flattening bit.
