Confirmed Aftermarket Screens/Monitors that work with the Onefinity

I have given up on getting the touch aspect working and bought a cheap mouse. Would prefer touch screen but life felt a little too short.

I bought this 7" Raspberry PI screen - https://www.amazon.ca/Quimat-Display-Raspberry-1024X600-Protective/dp/B08BYJHNW9/ref=sr_1_7?crid=388CG1HLYP8PR&dchild=1&keywords=7+touch+screen+monitor&qid=1634919991&sprefix=7"+touch+%2Caps%2C189&sr=8-7

Initially it the Onefinity screen didn’t take up the full diplay. I had to SSH into the Onefinity and adjust the video settings and then it went full screen. However, at full screen, the browser didn’t display the whole OneFinity interface, I had to scroll left and right, up and down. I adjusted the browser to 50% size and now the interface fits at least left-to-right. I still have to scroll up and down.

The touch never worked and the display is too small. I am using a wireless mouse. The scroll wheel is very useful and it works for me. My shop space is very limited, otherwise I’d go to a bigger, and better display.

Does the WiMAXIT 15.6 come with a power supply brick or did you have to purchase one separately?

Anyone know if this will work?

12/27/21 Update: Just to close out this I never did purchase this monitor because the display I had purchased from Onefinity which was supposed to be delayed until sometime in late January was delivered with my machine. So I did not need to buy something to tide me over. Since I never did purchase this, I can’t say if it would work or not.

I’ve been notified that the 10.8” touchscreen monitor will be backordered from my order shipping in the next couple weeks. I’m looking for a similar suitable option and came across numerous POS (point of sale) touch screen monitors in 10”-15” sizes that seem well made, offer HDMI and USB for connectivity and at a decent price point. Has anyone heard if these will work with the OF controller? Specifically looking a 10.1” Mimo Vue UM-1080CP-B.

What make and model =smart TV did you purchase? Thanks, Mark

I have the WIMAXIT. It comes with a usb power cord/plug, HDMI cable and usb-c cable.

My power strip has a couple usb ports so I didn’t use the outlet plug. You will need to buy another usb to usb-c cable in order to connect to the usb port on the controller.

Here is a 15.6" TOUCH SCREEN monitor confirmed to work.

I have this one, and it ticks a lot of boxes for me. I can also confirm it works in portrait mode, provided you edit your config.txt file on your OneFinity. Support is very responsive, should you need them. Please let me know if you have any questions, I may can answer.

So I ended up picking up a Viewsonic TD1655-s on Ebay that I’m very happy with and works great, plug and play. It was a refurbished one, but it looked brand new. 15.6" for $110.

Did you get the touchscreen to work? I still have been unable to get it to function on mine

@JRedman Yes. I never had a problem getting it to work. I used the included HDMI and usb/usb-c cord to connect to a power strip and ordered this cord to connect to the controller. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07DC5PPFV?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2_dt_b_product_details

I have the monitor and controller plugged into a power strip. When I turn on the power strip the monitor turns on and then turn on the controller. If I wait too long to turn on the controller the monitor will turn off or go to sleep and I have to hit one of the buttons on the right side to turn it back on before turning on the controller.

Thank you! The linked USB cords worked fine! My 15" WIMAXIT works great when paired with a https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B08613NNNW/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 monitor holder. I dont have to worry about it falling off or anything.

Newbie here. This one works well with the OF CNC. Maybe I am an idiot but I did not understand that the USB-C and the HDMI need to be connected to the controller.

Also, this one comes on when you turn on the controller. It doesn’t appear to care what the order of turning on the system.

I plan to make a frame for the screen to sit in and the cords to be protected since they stick out the side.

Dan, Make sure your connecting it to wall power. If you rely on the controller for power only, it will flash black.

Hey Daniel,

because of this.

@Aiph5u THANK YOU! Funny I searched for this and never found it. It explains what I now know. Just not sure if I missed it in all of the documentation or it’s not clearly stated. Either way, I appreciate the followup because the understanding of how it works (despite it now working) is helpful!

@OnefinityCNC That I am doing. Thank you for the followup.

Let me clarify some things…for anyone else reading this.

  • I do have the monitor powered separately and not by the controller. (and yes, it does flash black if you try to power it from the controller)
  • USB-C and HDMI are connected to the controller

I have read that there is a need to power up the monitor and the controller in a specific sequence. This does not appear to matter with the monitor I got.

The only down side to this monitor (though not sure it is much different than any other) is that the 3 cords connect to the right side precariously by quite a ways. The monitor manual also states that you need to handle it specifically as to not break it. This means if it is on a monitor arm you can only adjust it by holding it in specific points around the edge. This is not surprising to me because it is pretty thin and not built like a tablet.

My thinking is to build a holder that the monitor recesses into along with cable channels to secure the connections. Then any movement of the monitor will use the holder/frame.
